Tena Saw
Artwork Description
Appropriation, manipulation, transformation: these are some terms to describe Tena Saw’s approach to subject matter, motifs, and materials. In the artist’s large-scale paintings, graffiti tags join repeating forms resembling printed or stenciled motifs, yet with small variations that attest to the gesture of a hand-held brush. Smaller spray-paint and mixed media works on paper of minimal shapes suggest sunsets, horizons, landscapes, or architectural forms with a focus on the shimmering material quality of the spray paint itself.
