Patrick H Jones
Artwork Description
In his latest series, Patrick H. Jones deepens his exploration of animal imagery as a metaphor for human emotion, turning to horses and bulls as symbols of collective psychology and the relentless pursuit of unattainable goals. Abstracted, intertwined equine forms surge across his canvases with kinetic energy, their cyclical racing mirroring deep-seated human behavioural patterns. By alluding to the disposability of racehorses, Jones exposes the psychological toll of endless striving—the pursuit of something forever just out of reach. Thick, gestural brushstrokes fuse individual figures into a collective mass, evoking both herd mentality and the tension between personal agency and communal momentum. The compositions deliberately subvert traditional visual narratives through a right-to-left movement that unsettles the viewers's perception. This disruption mirrors the internal struggle of ambition—an upstream battle against external pressures and self-imposed expectations. In this series, Jones’ palette has evolved from the somber tones of his earlier work to incorporate more vibrant accents—a shift he attributes to the hope and altered perspective of new parenthood. Jones' paintings invite close examination, as layered forms dissolve into a near-abstract sea of motion, evoking an endless state of flux. By drawing parallels between racing horses and human ambition, he offers a striking commentary on the psychological toll of both personal aspiration and collective pressure.
